If it Rains...Go See a Waterfall

Another period of wet weather recently, has meant another opportunity to get out with the camera. This time, photographing waterfalls in Yorkshire and the Durham Dales. And Yorkshire (and the North of England generally) is blessed with some real beauties. So, on two separate days, I was able to visit three such waterfalls, with a couple of my photo-buddies - Mill Gill Force, Cauldron Falls and Summerhill Force.

Mill Gill Force

A bit of a muddy walk, we arrived at Mill Gill Force (about a half-mile from Askrigg). One minute, it was raining, the next, brilliant (though very fleeting) sunshine.

Cauldron Falls

Our next stop was at Cauldron Falls, West Burton, where I captured my two favourite images in this mini-series. This one is simply called "Cauldron Falls."

This image (Restful Turbulence) is definitely my favourite, though. I had to 'plodge' out into the water to get this view.

I really like the leaf resting on the foreground rock, with the falls in the background. The image is made up of 4 photographs, to focus on immediate foreground, foreground, mid-ground, background, all blended to give this final image. And yes, that leaf really was placed there by the hand of nature.

Summerhill Force

A couple of weeks later, my photo-buddies and I headed into the Teesdale. First off - coffee and bacon sarnie at Bowless Visitor Centre. Then a short walk to Summerhill Force and Gibsons Cave for this shot of the Force amidst strong light. I love the contrast here, between the dark rocks and the bright waters cascading down them.

With the abundance of waterfalls within an hour, or twos drive from home, I look forward to capturing more of the North's (and Nature's) beauty. And, it's especially nice when visiting with pals who enjoy a bit of a wander and fair bit of coffee, bacon sarnies and cake!!!
